What's the last movie you watched?
I'm actually currently watching Working Girl, which is on TV at the moment. But I didn't realise that Kevin Spacey played her sleazy boss in the beginning! It's been a long time since I've seen it, it seems.
Also Melanie Griffith's hair at the start is sooooo bad, it could rival Stevie's awful Behind The Mask do.
(her hair is worse than this in the beginning but this is all I could find on the interweb!)

RE: What's the last movie you watched?
I started Across the Universe a few days ago, but never got to finish it because Bill interrupted me and you're posting at the result of that interruption. I've seen Cloverfield not long ago. I thought it was pretty good, very original. I would change a few things here and there, but it kept me very entertained. I've also seen 27 Dresses. That one goes in the Mindless Entertainment folder.
Currently I have Chapter 27 and The Other Boleyn Girl on my computer. Will watch that this weekend.

RE: What's the last movie you watched?
The woman with the baby voice makes me want to claw her eyes out.
I saw ARIZONA (1940) the other night. It has a great cast: Jean Arthur, William Holden, Edgar Buchanan, Porter Hall, Byron Foulger, etc. (Notice how I didn't add Warren William?) It's a rousing, old-fashioned western with great, mass-appeal ingredients: cinematography, direction, score, screenplay, performances. Jean Arthur is the plucky frontier businesswoman, who does her own fighting & builds her own sprawling ranches. Both the actress & the character overshadow Bill Holden, who disappears in more ways than one from time to time as the story unfolds -- but Holden is still a good, intelligent actor even as a youngster here. He even sings his own songs, I think. Edgar Buchanan plays the quietly philosophical drunkard town judge who promises to get sober at the end. His performance is beautiful, as good as any in Ford's STAGECOACH.
It was practically a stroke of genius to team up the sinister Warren William character with Porter Hall as the man out to put Jean Arthur out of business. Where William is just a cliche-ridden villain, Porter Hall makes a great character out of his part: He's oily & sneaky, but also mewling & cowardly. Even his sense of humor from the Preston Sturges movies comes across, so he makes a far more interesting bad guy than Warren William does.
I think there's a subtle joke in one of the plot threads, but it's kind of let drop in the last half -- that's the pie-baking business Jean runs in order to save the money for her ranch & her shipping business. Pies & pie-baking are funny, especially out in Old Arizona. I guess the "pie" climax is when Holden rescues Arthur from Porter Hall, & picks up a handful of the pie on the floor to smash it in the captor's face. (I could swear I see Porter taste some of it, like in the classic pie-in-the-face scenes of silents.)
There are & will be a thousand princes. There is only one Beethoven. -- Erasmus of Rotterdam

Rewatched "The Robe" (Richard Burton, Victor Mature)
That movie is so unintentionally funny. I know it was made in the 1950's, but jeez...

They rule, too.
