Although I'm not sure I'm on board with Jack White producing both Buckingham and Nicks together. Several years back, when I was only about 80% convinced that Stevie Nicks' creative career was over, I said a number of times that I thought she should do a rock-country album with Jack White in the tradition of his fantastic record with Loretta Lynn. But I don't know that Jack and Lindsey would be a great musical fit together. They don't really seem to be coming from the same place, sound-wise. In most cases I might believe that that sort of conflict would breed fascinating results, but I think Lindsey is so obsessive-compulsive with his studio music that this kind of collaboration would more likely end up in train wreck territory.
On the subject of Lindsey Buckingham collaborations, looking back, I really think it's a shame that Lindsey never did anything to inject himself into the Beach Boys-obsessed indie pop scene in the past decade. It seemed such a perfect fit. As boring and twee as a lot of that music has become, there were some bands putting out a fair amount of really good stuff for a few years there, and I think Lindsey could have produced some really interesting music within that circle. If he'd put himself out there--i.e. offered to produce an album for some indie band, or performed with one of those bands either on record or on stage--I'd wager he could have wrangled some good "elder statesman" status among that crowd. Maybe not at the level of a Bowie or a Byrne, but he might have gotten close.

I love that track Gerald, never heard it before, but I think that is far too feedbacky and edgy for Stevie. She's a pop girl at heart I think. That song would probably scare her sadly.

I think Jim is right about Jack White being a good fit for Stevie but perhaps not so much for Lindsey. But he could have relaxed a little in his old age, so who knows.
I also agree about the Beach Boys/indie band thing. The fact that a lot of cool bands have been namechecking him you'd think would be his cue to get involved in something interesting but I guess he's not that interested in working with other artists, which is a great shame.
OK, guys, it's time to brag. In october 2008 I spoke to Lindsey a couple of times. At one occasion we discussed the possibility of using Jack White as a producer for his soloalbums, and he had answered that question during his UTS-tour too, a year and half earlier, through his internet Q&A. He litteraly said tht he would LOVE to work with him. Now apart from if you think they would fit, there's a huge difference between using a producer because of band politics and LOVING to work with him. Given Lindseys eager to collaborate with this specific guy must be a serious pathduster for an interesting producersjob. And I'm sure Stevie would be pleased: no LB as a main captain on the ship.

You know how it came to subject? I introduced myself as "Gerald from the Netherlands...(and at that moment I realised him saying that exactly on that clip, so I said)...you know, the one whose question you answered on youtube about choosing Jack White as a producer for your soloalbum". And he remembered instantly, we "clicked" and he immediately said that he would love to work with him etcetera. I asked him why he hadn't listened to me because GOS was out and he did it all by himself again. He laughed out loud and said that "there will always be a next time and that it was a very intriguing idea". He smiled throughout while talking and I'm sure it was because he could picture what would come from that collaboration.
Ofcourse I really hope that it would happen, because in that case I would have had an impact on the creative process of my hero. Maybe even on his laterlife-career. And, as a fan, that would be incredible awesome as you can imagine. I was playing the last Raconteurs-album last week and all the songs after the first two tracks have the original Buckingham-Nicks-feel. Revisit that album with that mindset and you'll know what I mean. I can even imagine that Stevie would fall for that approach.
In every case, it would be 100 times more interesting than a 11-track Peacekeeper/Say You Will -album, produced by a slick modern radiosaucelover.

I do think Lindsey is lightening up in his old age, so he does seem more open to this stuff. Even the rawer production on Under The Skin, that definitely wouldn't have happened 20 years ago, back then I think he would have felt it sounded unfinished but I love the sound of that album.

True, but that's the reason why I hooked you guys up with this Besnard lakes-track, that, in combination with Lindsey's wish to collaborate with White, would have been a nice example of how they could approach this.
I love the Lorretta Lynn album, but I'd rather see a more Buckingham/Nicks-like approach with Lindsey's BeachBoys-schtick combined. And then a more raw Lindsey-Live on the Turner-guitarrock base. I totally can hear it in my head.
And now that I listened to their fabulous, new studioalbum The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night (ten times better and heavier than their last "...are The dark Horse", which was fab too), for a few weeks I can just recommend this to everyone. It's not easy to get in to, but if you do, it's heaven. Buckingham/Nicks combined with Beach Boys, Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins, ELO, grungy guitarwalls, ah man, It's fantastic bombastic fly into eternity-music.
LISTEN!!! And don't get impatient because of long intro's or Pt1's ...they pay off. All of them.
Take the time for this. You'll not be dissappointed! I scream PEESTIE!

My favourite album so far this year (well, apart from The Fall ) comes from this bloke - though the album is drugged out and heavy while this clip is quite gentle. Just shows what one can do with a Jouhikko.
